1969 Corsair History
Barrett Returns to NU Coaching

Boston University’s new head coach, former NU Asst, Coach Frank Barrett, notices surprising split times recorded by BU oarsmen in the Corsair. Still, the Corsair saw little use due to the somewhat radical hull design making it difficult for oarsman to manage, especially in less than ideal water conditions.

Barrett returns to NU in the Fall of 1969 and talks the boat up to head coach, Ernie Arlett. Ernie goes and buys the Corsair from Boston University in the 1970-71 timeframe.

The exact time of the purchase is still a bit unclear. Barrett thought it was at Riverside by Spring  1970, but at least one BU Alum thinks the boat was still at BU when new coach Hugh Foley arrived in January 1971

The Corsair sits at NU for a few years before the varsity tries rowing it in 1972.
